    Slosh
Best pop song of 2005 . . . so far
And for once lyrics that I can agree with

16 military wives, 32 softly focused, brightly colored eyes
staring at the natural tan of 32 gently clenching wrinkled little hands
17 company men, out of which only 12 will make it back again
sergeant sends a letter to 5 military wives as tears drip down from 10 little eyes

Cheer them on to their rivals
because America can and America can't say no
and America does if America says it's so
and the anchor person on TV goes "na na na na na na na na na"

15 celebrity minds, leading their 15 sorid, wretched, checkered lives
will they find the solution in time using their 15 pristine moderate liberal minds?
18 Academy chairs, out of which only 7 really even care
doling out a garland to 5 celebrity minds, they're humbly taken by surprise

14 cannibal kings, wondering blithely what the dinner bell will bring
15 celebrity minds, served on a leafy bed of 16 military wives

Yeah, the Decemberists are one of the best bands out there now. I don't love every song they do, but when they connect with me it's like no other. Very special. Just barely started listening to the new one but like the sound of it so far....

And the anchor person on tv
Goes la da da da da da da da da da da
La da da da da da da da da da da
La da da da da da da da da da
Da da da da da da da da da da
Da da da da da da da da da da da

I've been living with the new one for few weeks now, and yeah...what Davey said.
Mr Meloy paints pictures with words, and the pictures often have the ocean as a backdrop, and I love the ocean and miss it. If the pictures were poorly-executed, they would still be correctly themed; fortunately for me, they are wonderful, and so I win twice when I listen to Picaresque.

I haven't heard that Decemberists song yet, but I'm digging the lyrics. The song that's rocked my world most this year (so far) goes something like this:

Cellophane flowers never happened for me
    Sleeping the day off
    Watching the night fall
    Covering nowhere
    Filling my time-share

There’s a woman in the mirror in a firey state
As she motions to me i start turning away
    She's lifting her dress up
    Trying to keep up

    Oh you'd be surprised
    How we race
    While our lives
    Erased

Another maroon on an everyday night
Thinking the morning looking for alright
    Warming the blood flow
With poison I don’t know why

Maybe the rain may stop following me
    Dripping the colors
    Running the daylight
    Over the cloud burst
    Hoping you don’t burst

    Right before my eyes
    Erased
    Our lives
    Erased

We know we lost we lost we're nowhere now
We know we lost we lost we're nowhere now
Now we know we're lost and nowhere now

Maybe the rain will stop following me
With millions of colors reflected in daylight
    Right on the kickdrum
    Turning the sound of up...oh

Another maroon on an everyday night
I think in the morning I think I'll be alright
    Watching the blood flow
no wonder I don’t know why

there's a woman in the mirror in a firey state
she motions to me i start pulling away
    she's lifting her dress up
    all the way up!

    oh don't look surprised
    erased

    our lives
    erased

I don't know, I'm digging LCD Soundsystem, though I'm not sure which disk is the 2005 disk...

The first disc is the 2005 one; the second contains their previous single releases.

That album certainly contains my favorite pop of the year so far. I'm going to their show in NYC on Saturday; I will report.
