    Music clubs in Vegas?

Hubby and I are tripping to Vegas next month. I've been looking for some good music happening the week that we're there and there isn't anything that I want to see on the Strip. Does anyone know any good clubs that we can look into that may be off the beaten path? Where do the locals go to see bands?

Well, I can't give you particulars, but you can try...

....checking here or maybe even better, check here for info on the Vegas music scene.

Google has some other sites (I typed in 'Las Vegas Music Scene) that you may want to try on your own, but I'm sure they're plenty of places to see live music away from the Strip.

I'm no epert on the Vegas scene, but did spend a week out there not long ago. All the locals I talked to about the music scene complain about the lack of local, original music in town. Most places seem to either put on a big show for the tourists or you get some cover bands in the cheaper parts of town. Lots of dance music and DJs. Only place we wandered into that played original live music was a place called the Double Down. It's a sorta punk rock little place, open 24 hours a day, bands most nights, no cover. Get ready to hear something loud and a bit sloppy if you go there. Drinks there are cheaper than most places in town and if its a comfortable place, depending what you usually get into.

Here's the entrance over the door...

Have fun and let us know if you find anything interesting.

You could get lucky. I saw Robin Trower in a small club in Vegas - it was cramped and hard to see, and looking back, prolly unsafe as hell.

Having lived there for almost 5 years, I can pretty much echo what nobody said above. When you exclude the Strip extravaganzas of tired old mainstream pop stars and the corporate rock venues of House of Blues and Hard Rock, there was never much going on that coaxed me out. I went to Doubledown once with my son- it was more in line with his music scene than mine, but a decent little joint.

There are a few headbanger-type clubs in the area surrounding Fremont Street, but I doubt any of those would appeal to you.

One chance you might get lucky on is the Station Casino chain that has several "locals" oriented places scattered around the suburbs.

Sunset Station, Boulder Station, and Green Valley Ranch occasionally would book in performers that were worth seeing. It would boil down to the luck of the draw on timing for when you're there.

If you might get into a night of some Celtic/Indie good time drinking and playing fun, check out Darby O'Gill and the Little People:

Dumb band name, but a lot of fun to see, and they play 2 or 3 different gigs every week. My sons got to be friends with them, and the accordian player used to hang out some with them at my house. Good stuff.

Thanks 'toze. I was hoping that you would see this post and chime in. I'll check out the links that you've provided. It looks like we may just have to search around for the best lounge acts.

Might also want to check out Jillian's and The Joint. I went to Jillian's a couple times- nice place up in the Fremont Street area, they occasionally have good acts in a club atmosphere. The Joint was just cranking up when left, I thiink, never went there, but they were booking decent acts from time to time as well- geared to a younger crows than Jillian's.

They really are a great group of young folks, and when they get cranked up, damned hard to keep your feet from moving. The restaurant/pub they play at in Green Valley Ranch (the name has changed, used to be Fado's) is small, and more or less their home gig. Instant party. The St. Paddy's Day celebration gets raucous!

It's called Quinn's now (at least according to their MySpace page).

We'll be in Vegas on St. Paddy's Day!!! That sounds like the perfect way the spend the evening. But if it's anything like getting into an Irish Pub here on St. Paddy's Day, we'll have to get there early. I'll have to remember to pack something green (and I don't mean my complextion after a few too many).

Call Quinn's when you get into town- I'm certain they'll do reservations for St. Paddy's Day. It's a SMALL place. Green Valley Ranch Casino, where it's located, is a very nice place. Not sure if Justin (my kid) stays in touch with Joe, the accordian player, but I'll check with him.
