My favorite album is their first self title album: DuranDuran



And their third album: Seven & The Ragged Tiger

Duran Duran was my favorite band back in my teen years! I always liked Rio the best, Save a Prayer is a great song. I quit following after Ragged Tiger, I keep meaning to re-purchase Rio, I still have all the rest from my original vinyl purchases back in the day. They still have the outer plastic wrap on them. Price tag for an album back then...$5.99. Unreal. And it's not fair. Back then I had to scrape up $6 to have the priveledge of going to buy an album. Now if they were all priced at $6 I'd buy like 10 a week...I just don't want to now. Funny how that works.

The Wedding album, bar none-hands down-clear cut winner for me. Ya sa, dat be my fave. Then again maybe it will be supplanted by the new one I expect in October. Kinda doubt it though.

I was dating a girl who had been in England and came back telling me they were very big in the UK. So we drove to Hollywood and bought tickets to see them 20 minutes before the show at the Whisky (a go-go). I didn't even know what a new romantic was, but after seeing and hearing them in such a same venue, I was hooked...

Favorite release: Rio (remastered)

I also agree that Rio was a great album. But to me, they seem to have lost that magic after the third album Raged tiger. They followed up with Notorious and Big Thing, but those albums seem so rushed and unsculptured. The wedding album-I don't know if it was just me or not, could not listen to it since they were in foreign territory as far as their signature sound was (sorry JC).

The only album that came very close to their original sound and creativity was So Red The Rose by Arcadia, which only compose of three original members Simon, Nick and Roger:



By the way N. Abstentia, you paid too much for price tag of $5.99. I picked up majority of LPs for $3.99 as they were phased out to make room for the new "shiny" music medium called CDs

Always dug "Night Boat", "Planet Earth", and "Careless Memories". They never really put a bad album out, but I think I liked their covers album the least.

Funny, I was just about to post a "where's Dusty Chalk when you need him?" response and here you are. Not really with the kind of response I was counting on though! ( L but not OL)

Well you guys are certainly all entitled to your opinions, incorrect as they are. Seriously though not being the hugest of DD fans I can't say I'm surprised with the varied responses. I'd expect most to like what was kicked out during their heyday so not really any big surprises here.

What impresses me about the Wedding album is mostly that it's essentially a well crafted synthpop album with guitars. More to my liking than the previous releases based on that alone. Still, the depth of introspective writing is hard to ignore and that's coming from someone who doesn't place a huge amount of emphasis on lyrics. Bonus points for the addition of a touch of soul and the introduction of just a touch of world music into the mix.
Where the album falls a little flat is when they try to get a funky and in my opinion it just doesn't really work. I appreciate what they were trying and think I can even understand where they were coming from up to a point. Still, despite that little failure they at least gave it a shot. No bonus points for effort though. Fortunately it's such a small part of the effort overall I tend to overlook it. I can see where others would nail it.

"The Wedding Album" does not suck. It was the album that to me really showed that they still "had it". "Come Undone" is easily in my top 10 favourite D^2 songs, ever, and the album, overall, might be my second favourite.

I just really, really like the first album.

But I hope you'll agree that DuranDuran had a good drummer (Roger Taylor). His work and rhythm beating is very similar to Alex Van Halen. Very fast and precise. If you listen to "Girls on Film", "The Reflex" and "Blue Moon on Monday", Roger Taylor is definitely smoking.

Too bad he left the band after the Arcadia album (not wanting to deal with the pressures of fame anymore).
