    From The Washington Post:

Ray Charles, the Grammy-winning crooner who blended gospel and blues in such crowd-pleasers as "What'd I Say" and heartfelt ballads like "Georgia on My Mind," died today, a spokesman said.

Blues, Jazz, Country, Gospel, even hip-hoppish stuff on his last couple of albums. I was listening to his My World album from 1993 a couple of months ago. There is a great cover of Paul Simon's Still Crazy After All These Years, and a beautiful rendition of Leon Russell's Song For You. With the right material, which he wasn't always given, there's nothing finer than Ray Charles.

The one good thing about the death of giants like Charles is that people begin to pay attention to the music after they are gone. That's what happened to Louis Armstrong, and Nick Drake, and many others. May Ray Charles always live on as the musical genius that he was.
