    Funk Brothers - Motowns finest.

    The West Coast Wrecking Crew.

The Band (Bob Dylan). I'm not saying they were 'the best', but I liked them more than any other I can thing of off the top. Also think a lot of The Rumour (Graham Parker), The Hot Bank (Emmylou Harris), and the Bluesbreakers (John Mayall).
I call my bathroom Jim instead of John so I can tell people that I go to the Jim first thing every morning.

If you say the word 'gullible' very slowly it sounds just like oranges.

The Experience, Jimi Hendrix's backup band. Agree with Swisher on the Bluesbreakers. Saw John Mayall play a little club outside Philly called The Main Point back in the early 70's. After sets you could go up and talk to him. It was that kind on setting.

    The Silver Bullet Band.

On one tour, these guys would play their own great set and then, after an intermission, Bob Seger would join them for the real show.

    Booker T & the MGs.

And, I'll nominate the boys from my home state: The Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section who recorded with everyone from Paul Simon, to the Staple Singers to Jimmy Cliff and the list goes on.
