    Aladdin Sane

Finally got around to getting the ALADDIN SANE 30th Ann. Remastered CD and what a pleasant surprise! Despite not sounding quite as good as the Bowie SACD's, this is still an impressive CD with excellent separation and imaging with good high and low end presence. Clarity is also a non-issue delivering some great lyric execution that I enjoyed even more than some of the buried vocals that are in the 5.1 mix on ZIGGY STARDUST.

Anyone else have this disc think it's a fair contended for one of the better remasters of a CD this old?

I own the recent David Bowie "book" remasters, including this one and Ziggy, and like 'em a lot, but I'm not as much a remaster afficianado as some of those people on sh.tv are (OMG!), so couldn't tell you. I can hear the difference, but the things I care about are different than what most people care about.

I also have the Rykodiscs (non-Au) of most of the Bowie titles that I care about -- if, for nothing else, for the bonus tracks.

I'd be interested to hear a comparison between the RYKO and the Remastered and even the SACD for LET'S DANCE, SCARY MONSTERS, and ZIGGY. RYKO typically takes good care of their material....I have heard the Zappa's and I still own my copies of the soundtrack for ACROSS 110TH STREET and HEAVEN'S GATE...both are excellent.

I remember Davey and I a while ago having a discussion regarding the Ryko and recent EMI remasters, I think he preferred the Ryko and I liked the EMI ones. The Ryko was more restrained maybe less compressed but I like my sound up front and in yer face. I think we were talking about the Ziggy and Man Who Sold the World remasters.

Can't vouch for the SACD though never heard SACD in me life, couldn't stand the thought of not being satisfied with CD's I already have and having to update them all.

Might be something in the archives if you are any good at checking them.

    Cheers
    Mike

No, definitely not, the original Japan for Europe RCA CD is by far the only digital way to go on this one (not to be confused with the botched Japan for US version). Crack, baby, crack, show me you're real...

The original Japan or German pressed CDs are still the best for all the others, at least for many of us. They could be a touch better, but not likely to happen nowadays. There's a reason that those original CDs now fetch such a high price, and it's not for the missing liner notes

So it took you more than 5 years to figure that out?

Interesting. Your therapist probably needs to hear about this.
I call my bathroom Jim instead of John so I can tell people that I go to the Jim first thing every morning.

Hey, are you trying to say I'm not the smartest monkey on the block? Hehehe, some of these threads came and went pretty quick, but can't believe I missed a Bowie thread, especially Aladdin Sane! Must've been on a pale ale bender. Though if you read closely, I did get a mention from Mikey ...

I'd like to hear that. I'll poke around some to see if I can find it.
And the world will turn to flowing pink vapor stew.
