    33 1/3 Books

Have any of you read any of these? Which ones do you like or don't like?

I've read two of them. I first read the one for The Kinks are the Village Green Preservation Society. I thought this one was excellent. It was written by Andy Miller, who I had never heard of before. It had a detailed history of the recordings (including songs that did not make the album), what the band was going through at the time, and the author's opinions about the album and its tracks.

Then I read the one for The Replacements' Let It Be. It was written by Colin Meloy of the Decemberists. I was really excited to read this one, but was very disappointed. It was more a telling of Meloy's childhood and how he got into music than about Let It Be. I wouldn't recommend this one, unless you want to read about Meloy and his childhood.

The book covering Meat Is Murder is on deck. This one was written by Joe Pernice. I hope it's not as pretentious and boring as Meloy's book.

And the world will turn to flowing pink vapor stew.

Haven't read any of them yet but had two of them on my radar for awhile, now 3 with the Kinks. Thanks ...

You wonder what more can be said about this modern classic, but apparently she's able to set the stage for how it all came together and deliver some pretty good interviews with many of the players.

You hear a lot about Bowie's drugged out times in the mid 70's, and how albums that preceded Low were just a blur to him, with no real recollection of how (or even where) they came together, but Berlin was a time of change in his life, and over the years this has become my favorite period of his. Dark for sure, but so much depth.

I haven't heard of this, but what a cool concept. Do you have a link for these?
