I always woundered about these two earphones but does anyone know the difference in the sound between the JBLŽ Reference 210 Earphones and the JBLŽ Reference 220 Earphones? Do they both sound the same but only difference is how it goes in your ear?

I have no idea -- you should ask over at Head-Fi.

The 210's can absorb three times the power of the 220's, but they don't specify their sensitivity.

Ultimately, the sound is the determining factor. Listen to them yourself but, with a 2x price difference I'm sure there is an audiable difference..

Ad, if you want some serious, friendly advice, start looking at brands other than JBL. It's a big world out there and many other brands are equal to or better than JBL. Koss is one. Sennheiser is another and there are many. many more worth considering.

You're becoming a joke here with your JBL fanaticism.

...with you and JBL? They have produced great drivers...for instrument amps...and great super-efficient horn-loaded speakers like the Voice of the Theater-type, but headphones?...A few good products doesn't guarantee everything they make is going to be satisfactory. Koss pretty much originated 'phones so I'd suggest starting there.

And it depends on what you are driving them with...for portables try Koss' Porta-Pro...They have gotten good reviews since the were introduced...Sennheiser has the PX-100, which one of the headphone sites has rated as their top portable-driven pick replacing the Koss P-Ps in that position. Both are around $50...Home systems can produce more power and you can use less efficient cans, some which have volume controls in their line-cord...

Phones are personal; it's not just sound that counts. Comfort is something to be considered...I have a pair of STAX SR-44s...pretty accurate but they make my ears sweat and are a bit uncomfortable for long listening sessions...OTOH my 30yr old Sennheiser 212s are a bit lacking in low end, but I can wear them all day without any discomfort (BTW both models are long discontinued)...and most recently I have been using a pair of $6 Sony 'phones that I have modded to work well with my GPX portable CDP...they have a high sensitivity (good for battery-operated devices) and are quite light and comfortable, but in stock form have a way too-hot top end, my modifications and use of the CDPs bass-boost makes them quite good...at least to my ears.

Some people swear by Grado units and there's Phillips and Shure and many others in many price ranges...as with loudspeakers you really have to listen to them yourself and, like a pair of pants or shoes, with 'phones you have to actually try them on...

...absolutely right...but there may be some folks lurking out there who may have similar questions and may benefit from another POV...so far it seems, SVI is hopeless case...If he comes back with a response similar to ones on previous threads I, for one, am done with him...

jimHJJ(...and I am unanimous in that position...)

I guess I could ask you guys this but are these Sony earphones better then JBL 210? They are the same price range. I know that Sony have been very good at portable headphones and I have a bunch of them but I wanted earphones so they go in my ears. BUT for JBL's I can say it looks like the 210s have way better specs.

After all this time reading specs, you STILL don't know how to interpert them?

the 210 should play a heckuva lot louder but this is no indication of how they sound.

Interesting that the one you say has "better specs" sells for about half the price of the other one. hmmmm...

Now, just go listen to 'em and quit bothering us with your pedantic bullshirt.

that's it, I'm forced to use image macros with this moron

JBL and Sony would not be my first thought when it comes to headphones. But of course you can't teach the blathering idiot SVI that JBL and Sony aren't always the best brands to choose between.

oh man, and I'd love to see what happens if this moran hits audioholics
