Grrrr...what is the deal with Shop-Vac?

Sum*****. I went to suck up some sawdust last night and my new Shop-Vac won't work? I've had this thing for about 7 months, used it maybe 3 times this year.

What's worse, this is the 2nd warranty replacement they've sent me...and it was an upgrade over the now discountinued model I originally purchased. That's 3 faulty units, 2 different models with different motors. Damn.

I had an old one that my dad gave me that was probably 20 years old and it took as much abuse as I could throw at it until finally the motor died. These new bastards seem to be allergic to dust.

....ugh...I need to buy another one now. Don't really want to drop $5 or $6 bills on a Milwaukee or Delta but I can't live like this anymore.

    Raahhhhhh! :

Alright, put the shop vac down and slowly back away!

I've had my 18 gal., 6.5 hp Shop Vac for about five years now without a lick of trouble. Try a different store. Or try a different model.

    $600 for a shop vac?

    Hey, Kex!

Have you checked the filter? there's a cylindrical filter directly under the motor that needs to be cleaned (and sometimes replaced) on a regular basis. It's a whole lot cheaper than buying a new vac.

Yeah, bro took it apart. It's pretty clean - only used the damn thing 3 times maybe.
I dunno...bad luck I guess...everyone else seems to have no problem with theirs.

Thanks for letting me vent guys.

Sorry to read that your vac sucks. Or doesn't suck. What brand is it that I should avoid?

Sorry, thought that was a description. You know, like Vaseline.

Yeah, it's a Shop-Vac wet-dry vac. 6.5 HP, 18 Gallon jobber...yellow. Might be the same on Rich has? I had another one with the same specs but it was green and had a different shape..it was the original model I bought that died.

Oh well, I'm over it now...I've been doing some research and people still like Shop-Vac, but Rigid and Craftsman (Sears brand made by Porter Cable IIRC) have some out now that are just as well liked. I always get gift certificates for tool vendors at Christmas so I'll just start shopping now and pull the trigger in 2 weeks.
