Well the internal version code for 2K is NT5.0 and XP is 5.1 so its actually based on the same core. I personally would stick with 2K since XP currently is beeing phased out to make room for Windows VISTA in January 2007.

    Cheers

If 2K is working stick with it. The hardware requirements for VISTA are simply ridiculous. My 128Mb ATI video card is inadaquate to run VISTA. Talk about a resource hog. I remember when that much memory on a PC was a lot.

Don't laugh but, until x-mas of 05 the desktop I owned was only 35mb.The one I got on x-mas was built for me.I do not know its mb but,it is A LOT faster.I also went from dial up narrow band to Cable modem. As, far as Windows,I am going to keep the W2000.They have lowered the price of the XBOX360 console so,I will buy it for $ 299.

That 35Mb sounds like the size of the hard drive.

If you're already using Win2000 Pro, I don't think you can upgrade to XP Home anyway. You pretty much have to do the more expensive ($200) XP Pro upgrade.

As Flo mentioned, the two OS' use the same basic code base. XP just adds a more user-friendly (and resource hogging) interface and some additional features that you may or may not use.

You can find that price everywhere. The full installation version of XP Pro costs $300, while the upgrade version is $200. Since you already have Win2000 Pro installed, you just need the upgrade version. I've seen both versions at Best Buy, and that's the price. I don't know any stores that sell the OS for less. You should be able to find a cheaper copy on eBay.

well, things about windows you have to know: if the current one works fine, then stay off it, the only thing you can do is mess it up,
and if you only do normal pc things, like typing word documents, and reading and writing on forums, and using the internet for research and stuff, play some games here and there, you won't need the xp pro, for the normal people, nothing differs.

stick with 2k, xp is crap anyways.
(i'm not saying 2k is the über os, it's not the best, but xp is not worth it's money)
and if you definatly want a new one, then save some money, and buy vista.

yes it's system requirements are off the limit, but, if you can run it, it might run more stable, then all the others.
vista beta2 and rc1 ran fine on my pc
