What changes do you expect as a result of the U.S. transfer of sovereignty to Iraqi leadership?

...just the usual window-dressing and smoke & mirrors. Yankee profiteers will still make obscene profits, Iraqi civilians will still be shot to hell, our sons and daughters will still die for Halliburton, Brown & Root, etc. Why would you expect anything to change??

It's a worrisome time, no doubt.

The big change in my mind is that it's now on the Iraqis. Hopefully they are strong enough as a people to take this oppretunity. We will stay as long as neccessary (at least with the GOP in power here).

If they prove too weak to govern themselves we will undoubtably support a "benign" military style dictatorship. I believe this is what the Dems have in mind out of the gate (how else can you "bring the boys home" ?). It would undoubtably be better than the Butcher, we won't allow that to happen again anytime soon (again with the GOP caveat).

Of course we will still be blamed for whatever bad happens. I wish I could shrug through my keyboard. Danged if you do.....

Anyway, my hopes and prayers are with the Iraqis. A toast to their sucess!! (clink!)

Back in the 1930’s, when the idea of land in Florida for homes first became popular, a New York entrepreneur bought up several hundreds of acres of swampland extremely cheap. His plan was to hire a construction crew to drain the swamp and prepare it for the home builders.

He chose one company and was quoted a price and told it would take 6 months to drain the swamp. He sent them on their way.

About four months into the project, he called the engineer and asked how much longer the project would take. He was told six months. He realized this was a little out of the schedule, but he could live with it.

About three months later, he again called and asked how much longer it would take. Again, he was told six months.

Now, this time he was livid! “How can you tell me that you need ANOTHER six months to drain that swamp. You told me seven months ago that you would have been done in six months! That’s one month ago!”

The engineer replied “Well sir, the draining isn’t the problem and is going quite well. It’s fighting off the alligators that’s taking all the time.”
