Well boy's and girls... for those of you waiting to build or buy a new rig in 2011 I guess the jury's in on Intel's new "Sandy Bridge" chips and chipset. Seems that in an effort to use all the current inventory of capacitors and sech with new motherboards a crapload of bad junk got put into play. Bottom line? Intel new chip and chipset go "BOOM"!!!!!! Couldn't happen to a nice company...

After the anti-competitive shenannigans Intel finally copped to and their merciless throttling of almost all innovation in the PC world, SB crappin' da bed is exactly what they deserve. In case you'd rather see it in black and whitle...

Thanks, Worfster, I hadn't heard about this.

Makes me just as glad I recommended an AMD processor and AMD/ATI chipset (on an ASUS m/b) to my daughter when we built her a new desktop recently.

I forget my PC lingo, but I have a dual Intel something-or-other in my computer with no complaints. My friend has always swore to AMD's. I might think twice before my next build, but usually its not the equipment - its the builder..:mad2:

I always preferred AMD, but man AMD has sucked some serious donkey balls for the last few years. The guys at Tiger Direct make fun of me when I order AMD. Intel kinda whooped them in the mobile department. Man I'd hate to be the engineer who goofed on this one.

I use to run AMD processors a few years back but they dropped the ball for gaming. Maybe this will allow them gain back some of the market share. However, the truth is the majority of people who own computers do not know the diffence between an AMD or Intel processor.

I'll be the FIRST to admit that AMD dropped the ball after the Athlon line, but it wasn't all their fault. The had the better chip at a better price for 3 to 4 years but Intel, through coercion, threats and any illegal means at their disposal, kept EVERY major oem builder from offering all but a drizzel of AMD products in their line. I don't think Dell EVER did. Unable to reap full rewards of their labor AMD failed to have a follow-up or an adequate answer for Intel's Core-Duo. AMD's answer, the ill named Phenom was slower and just plain uncompetitive. Still they managed to hold on till Intel was forced to pony up a year and a half ago and settled in an effort to end international lawsuits against them. Since then AMD's been able to carve out a niche in the middle to low end. If AMD is competitive again perhaps we'll see more innovation on Intel's part. Still there's few if any apps that can fully use 4 cores much less 6. We need a totally new operating system free of the windows kernel, then we might be able to soar.
