Battle of the Bands

Has anyone here ever been involved in organizing a Battle of the Bands competition? We're looking into doing one as a charity event and I'm trying to gather information about the best way to approach it.

I helped with one at my daughter's middle school last year. I didn't organize it; I brought the PA. Battle of the bands was only half of what was going on. It was sort of a fun night at school for the kids.
