What is it with people here and math. No, it's $399 in "Actual Deniro". You just happen to get 5 movies (mail in coupon) at no EXTRA charge. You still pay $399 Plus Tax.

Old news. But it's not supposed to be advertised yet.
Best Buy and Target are guilty of the same as well.
Oh, and don't forget the Spidy game that should be in that bundle.

My bad. Yes, it does say Spidy in "Blu-Ray". That says movie to me.
I'm still looking for the 60GB bundle. They're gonna have to do something to move the old units.
Rumours are that it will be the 60GB with a game TBA and an extra wireless controller for $499.00. (No, that's not less than $400.) (Must be the new math)
We'll see.

I think the 7 free BR deal at amazon ends on the 31st. Times running out.

AND you get five free movies worth from 120 to 150 dollars.
Which reduces the price of your inital outlay.
If you can show me where you can get blu-ray discs for free then I WILL BUY YOUR
ARGUMENT,
Buy a case of beer full price, get a coupon for a FREE case in a week, that reduces the price of your beer by half.
Its a real benefit, thats why people partake in it.
When you took a pic of your brains to make that avatar, did you by chance forget to put them back in?
Doesnt matter what the price is for the movies and the player seperately, what matters is the outlay for the whole package:5:
-
Are there any restrictions on which movies you can take for free? I know the HD-DVD deals 'round here offer you a choice of 5 out of 20, but you have to pick within smaller categories of 4 - so you can't just take the best 5 movies you want.
If the BluRay deal is similar, the value of those 7 free discs totally reduced to the number of discs you'd actually run out and buy. Not necessarily a great deal where I stand.
As much as I liked "Weekend at Bernie's 2" and "Hot Shots", I"m not sure those are worth $60 to me...

If you go to the Amazon link that LJ posted, it showes what movies are included. I believe that you get 2 with the PS3 (from the above list) and then a coupon for 5 more (no mention of list).

Still not the same as buying a PS3 for under $300. What if you didn't want any movies?
You still paid $400.

Yeah, if you download the Mail-in-rebate form for the 5 free BluRays you get to choose from 5 categories...some of the movies include
The Prestige
Swordfish
Stir Of Echoes
The Patriot
Chain Reaction
Hart’s War
Wild Hogs
Superman
American Psycho
S.W.A.T.
Omen 666
The Last Waltz
Pirates Of The Caribbean: Curse Of The Black Pearl
Full Metal Jacket
The Devil’s Rejects
Ultraviolet
Flight Of The Phoenix
Species
But there's restrictions - you can't take Pirates and The Prestige for example, and your 5th choice is going to be one crappy movie :)
Still, better than nothing, but most of these I wouldn't pay money for...

That's why they are free. I would have picked Pirates as one of the 2 first ones that come from Amizon. That would leave me with nothing left to pick.

I'd prolly take Pirates, Full Metal Jacket, The Prestige, Superman, and Ultraviolet assuming none of those are in the same category and I'm prohibited.
It sure sounds great at first, but the value is only what you'd otherwise pay for these movies...overall, I'd say the 5 freebies are worth about $50-$60 to me, maybe. Like I said, better than nothing, but only a small consideration - not worth $150 or whatever. I might watch 3 of those movies once every 3 years. Full Metal Jacket is a fav of mine though.

I already have Superman and a few others saved on my DVR in 1080i. As my projector's natural rez is 720p, I'm not so sure how much better the Blu-Rays will be for me (at this point).
A new projector is on my list of upgrades, but falls down the list a ways.

Hmm...I didn't know that. Well that sucks! Most of those BR you mentioned on that list were selling for $9.99 not too long ago at Frys.com. There's also a pretty decent B1G1 sell going on at a few different sites. Mostly disney titles. Seems those 7 free, don't come up to the huge value I thought. Well I guess it's better than nothing :nonod:

The list from Amazon for the first two is pretty nice. Plenty to choose from there. Too bad the 5 from Sony fall a little short.

Wait unitl Nov 2nd.
Here is some more info to confuse your purchase.
On the Nov 2nd, it looks like they are dropping the price of the 80GB to $500 from $600.
Not sure exactly what the difference is, but there must be something.

Hope that muddies the water :cornut:

No, it doesn't "reduce the price of your inital outlay". You PAY $399 + tax.
Send in coupon, and get 5 movies. Total cash outlay $399 + tax.
Now, if they sent you 5 FREE movies, and $100 cash, THEN your "total cash outlay" would be $300 and 5 movies.
This is why "Buy $100 of goods and get $25 off works so well." Consumers "spend more, to SAVE more" Its a marketing ploy, and it works pretty good.

They were saying that this would happen after all the 60GB's were gone. Wonder how they'll move them now. (Bundle baby! Bundle!) Will the 80 still come in a bundle or will it be stripped down to just the console?
