Slow start for XBOX in Japan

I guess most consumers are going to wait for a gaiming console that actually works as promised.

Well, Japan is Sony's backyard. With 80% of the market wrapped up, it would only make sense that Xbox would sell a bit more slowly. Your point is exactly what? The article makes no parallel, or draws a conclusion that players are holding off due to a very small minority of new Xboxs have had a problem.

In fact, it seems according to your source that many gamers were holding off due to a hot title being pushed back. So, if the game they want is not available, they wait.

Again what exactly is your point?

Did the original XBox sell well there? I'm wouldn't be at all surprised if a little bit of nationalism was involved with the slow launch.

    Either way, who cares?

the original Xbox sold quite slowly at the beginning. There has been lots of speculation about the reasons, but i'm ready to bet one of them was nationalism.
another reason was that the Xbox's original gamepad was HUGE for the relatively small japanese hands. That got fixed when they started selling the console with an adapted, smaller pad for the japanese market that later became available worldwide and eventually replaced the bulky, heavy original xbox pad.
    cheers!
I remember the days when I thought 128kbps sounded great and had never spent more than 10 bucks on cables...
