Paramount to support both BluRay and HD-DVD

It looks that the lure of PS3 was too much for Paramount to pass up. They are the first studio to commit to both formats, and it is expected that Warner and Universal will follow suit. IMO, this is bad for HD-DVD because apparently having Microsoft's XBox is not going to be enough to keep content providers happy. BluRay now has 50% of the music market, more studio support, and PS3 in their back pocket.

Could get real confusing if everyone else follows suit and starts producing both formats as well. I mentioned this a few months ago. Nobody is married to either format, even Toshiba will be the first to admit they stand more to gain financially from the sale of the electronic devices than being proprieter of the format.
Makes me wonder if all this is just rediculous posturing and the real reason a single format hasn't yet emerged is because neither camp feels the time is right for a new format just yet. Looking at the number of A/V receivers with HDMI inputs/ouputs, and whatever future audio decoding formats HD-DVD and BluRay would support, it's a safe bet the industry isn't rushing in like magazine/web articles would have us believe.

    What a mess!!

I hope these guys realize that not agreeing on one single format, they are actually shooting themseles in the foot. It will be like SACD vs DAD-A foramts. They argue so much about being proprieter and copyright issue on these high resolution formats that consumers said f*uck it and endorsed niether. That was revenue that was/is lost.
