    NEW dac/preamp from Emotiva
At only 299$ this new toy from emotiva looks sweet.
You can use it as a DAC or as a pre-amp, or both.
Gonna be kinda hard to resist this baby.:1:

I don't think that is the right forum. A LOT ON THIS SITE never venture there, and this is
not just another pre-amp, nor just another dac.
ITS BUILT to be used as both, and is only 299! You can get a separates audio system
for 549$, all you need is a digital source and a couple of speakers.
Might want to try it , but it would mean some tricky re-arranging, I would need a cheap
second hand computer and some surround speakers(and take one set of B&W speakers
to be used for the audio system). CD player would not be critical, would just need a transport,
    and have several canidates.
THE DOMINANT idea is to get a set of Def-tech mini_monitors, use those for the HT,
and set up an audio system in the same sound field, hanging the Defs on the wall.
    Might work.:1:

Finding a digital preamp is a rare treat... Finding one at $300 is like stealing gold from a leprechaun... I can't wait to get my hands on one (the DAC, though I'd take the gold as well)...

Well, I HAVE A dvd audio player with 192 khz dacs, sounds really nice. AT THIS PRICE
POINT it would be worth having just for a computer(it has usb). I have seen more expensive
computer DACS that were only dacs.:1:
