I watched the last Picture show in HD on on-demand on my cable box the other night.
Kinda apropriate, it turns out.
Because its the Last Picture Show for Movie Gallery, turns out.
Today they are filing for bankruptcy, pure liquidation, not reorganization.
A few years ago we had them, three Blockbusters, and a few independents.
Now its gonna be a Blockbuster and a Redbox at Brunos supermarket.
Sir TERRANCE SAID IT WOULD BE FIVE YEARS BEFORE
downloading and video streaming became prominent.
Well, with Blu players streaming netflix, and movies appearing "day and date"
on the cable box as Blu and DVD, it seems that the day of the movie rental store
is numbered.
Why pay five bucks to rent a movie, take it home, watch it, and have to take it back(paying a late fee if you're late) when you can just hit a button and pay 5.99$?
And quite a few (like the last picture show are free.
Can't beat free.
The studios have wanted this for years, now it seems they might be getting their wish.
Comcast is also offering their programming online, btw.
Everything is going "net" sooner or later, probably sooner.
VIDEO rental was a bridge between the start of the video age and the net age, when you could download anything you want.
Now it looks like the end.
But theres always redbox.
Wonder if I have to take my copy of Surrogates back?
