    It's here..... a sub $300.00 Blu-ray player

Wal-Mart be the place to find this Magnavox model. BB plans to have an Insignia at $350.00 which I find interesting. From the article both are being built by Funai but they did say they aren't sure what difference, I say, if any. Funai manufactures many brands and from what I've seen build quality is good. I bet WM sells these things as fast as they can get them. This may not be the price point to cause a stampede but it's the cheapest and Magnavox has brand recognition and it could be the price to get some off the fence.

The Samsung BD-P1500 is already selling for under $350 at Wal-Mart stores. Expect that to become the new price point for that particular model, and expect the Insignia and Magnavox (Funai) models to go well below $300 in short order.

Hmmmm... Much cheaper than a PS3. I'd prefer at the least a well featured Panasonic player at that price point. I wonder how soon they'll follow these lesser knowns.

When comparing this unit to the PS3, I'd say the extra $100.00 for the basic PS3 would be very well spent.

    FUNNY HOW THINGS CHANGE.
My last laserdisc player ran at 600 bucks, about a grand at todays rate.
So why balk at a 400 price for a much more advanced player?
BECAUSE tech has improved, and manufacturing.
And when I bought that laser I couldnt go to the on demand section of my cable and rent an HD movie for five or six bucks without even buying a player.
Si I think I will wait

Sir talky told this very website that sub $300 players were coming from funai long before they released them. I didn't protest what you said at all, I just said it will be a while before you will see ALL players clocking in at that price point.

I have told your stupid a$$ time and time again, when you quote me, quote me correctly. None of this pixel pull out of your a$$ stuff. You and your posts are become more and more inaccurate. Maybe its time for the old fart to step his cheap dumpster diving a$$ away from the keyboard and give us all a rest.

    There goes the neighborhood!

    Check this out!

    http://www.hdtvinfo.eu/news/hd-video...facturers.html

No doubt, the sub $300.00 BDP's will become a fact of life before Christmas!
The Insignia BDP will start to look like the Denon 3800 when these low budget, gawd-awful plastic players hit the shelves!

"Pix", you will probably be the first to snatch one up! It will go well with your Vizio! Only kidding! Got nuttin but luv for ya!
By the way, "Pix", what's up with the "Mariah" avatar?!

    Peace!

nothing wrong with a little variety.
ELEVEN Chinese manufacturers, one hooked up with Panasonic!
Doubt if their creation will be "cheap plastic".
SPEAKING OF panasonic I am probably going to check out their latest player,
at five hundred its pricey, but if its performance matches the price I MIGHT GIVE IT A GO

Well based on the price turn I can expect to pick up a post-Christmas open box special Blu-Ray unit at BB next year from around $200....

This will make sure the BR becomes the standard for video and it will take off like wild fire around the holidays, especially with the prices of HD TV's dropping rapidly and peoples CRT TV's wearing out as my Toshiba 32" just did this week.

True but their post X-mas open box specials are usually repeat gfts that have never been used. You can use the price break to buy an extended warranty (which are usually rip-offs based on price but they often give you a break there as well on an open item...) and still pay less than a new one. It has the effect of extending the original warrany on a new one (sans Extended warranty) and if it breaks during the warranty you end up with a new one anyway.

My brother has used this tactic now for several years with inexpensive DVD recorders which he tends to burn out prematurely because of the thousands of hours of discs that he burns. He in effect gets a two-for-one deal.
