    TrueHD really needed

I am looking at a Marantz SR5002 a/v receiver. The only thing it doesn't have that I want is TrueHD.
I do not have a BD yet but probably will by the end of the year.

Should this matter or should I look at a different model. I really did not want to spend $1400
    on the SR 7002.

    Thanks for your time.

You really DON'T need trueHD decoding in the receiver. The players can decode the audio just fine, and send it to your receiver as a PCM signal.

The thing to watch out for when looking for a receiver is does it pass audio and well as video signals through its HDMI inputs and outputs.

    Thanks for the input.
I would know it passes audio and video signals through its HDMI inputs and outputs is because it would not be using optical or digital cables?

I'm just curious: why the sr5002?

If it's "a Marantz thing", that I can understand. You can't help but give the nod to brand familiarity and confidence.

But for that same price, I wonder if you can find a receiver that does everything that the sr5002 does, plus a few things that it doesn't. (Wow, now I'm starting to sound like my friend's stepfather the night of his son's bachelor party.)

I looked up the receiver for you, and can verify that it does pass audio through HDMI, so no worries there. You are going to have to make sure that when you do purchase a bluray player, that it has onboard decoding of all of the legacy and new audio codecs. I know Sony and Panasonic both have one coming out, or already out that does the job.

Personally, I would look into the Onkyo family of receivers. The TX-SR606 has on board decoding of both Dts MA lossless and Dolby TrueHD(and everything else too), Audessey EQ, the same power output as your marantz, and is cheaper as well.

I look at the Marantz and I saw that is does pass through both. I'm more of a Sony person. I have an older 900ES that is dolby pro logic that is getting retired to the basement and a 444es that is going in a secondary room. The only Sony I like is about $1200.00
I'll look at the Onkyo. Thanks alot.

I'd just like to add that it is worth being sure you can take advantage of Tru-HD, DTS-MA and uncompressed audio tracks on Blu-ray, the sound quality is as impressive as the video from BR.
