Klipsch Quintet V - Old model vs new one

    Hello everyone,

My name is Sumeet. I'm from Mumbai, India. I am new here, this is my first post. I am facing a bit of confusion here. I have narrowed down to Klipsch Quintet 5.0 for my home theatre – just loved it.

I have a friend coming from the US who is willing to carry the speakers for me. So I checked online and there surely is a huge difference in the price ($510 approx. as opposed to $800 if I were to buy from here). During my search, I came across a set of Klipsch Quintet 5.0 speakers at half the price ($250 approx.).

Below are the links to both:

I visited the Klipsch website to learn the cheaper ones are the older model and are discontinued. I did compare the specs and they are pretty similar.

Below are the links to the specs for both:

    https://www.klipsch.com/quintet/details (current model)
    https://www.klipsch.com/quintet-home-theater-system/details (discontinued model)

The issue here is that I have taken the demo of the current model but have no idea what the older model sounds like. I discussed this with my dealer here – he is happy to guide me since I will be buying the subwoofer and receiver from him J. He is of the opinion that the older model has a plastic body and the newer one is metallic that makes all the difference.

Taking reference from the specs comparison and the price difference, I most definitely am lured to go in for the cheaper set. Even if the metallic body is better than the plastic body – how bad would the plastic body be?

Look forward to hearing from you.

    Thank you,
    Warm regards,

    Sumeet

The link to older version didn't give much info, looks like they do have some type of stand that comes with them. My friend has the current version but I haven't seen the older version. Klipsch has a certain type sound so I'd say you'd be as happy with the older version if that's the way you wanted to go. My friend used a Marantz receiver and the set up sounded good for what it was. You'll definitely need a subwoofer with either version.

These have been around for some time, so they must fulfill a need in the market. Except for cabinet material the only other difference I noted were the crossover frequencies. I remember listening to the original version many years ago and being impressed for their size and cost.

Another system you may want to consider very similar to the Quintet is the Polk TL Series. There are three models of satellites TL1-TL3, each with more features than the prior. I like the TL3 with it's just slightly larger woofer and ring tweeter. I've never compared the two, but I don't think you can go wrong with either for the money.

Polk's pricing is solid. you won't find many bargains, but Polk has a website where you can purchase refurbs at a reasonable cost. These also have a similar integrated stand/wall-mount. Your choice, just providing options.

Once you go bigger then move the quintet to rear surround.
