Promonitor 1000 or ML Motion 4

I am looking for a pair of small speakers to function as TV speakers for my new Samsung 55" TV so I don't have to use my HT every time I want to watch TV. I have narrowed it down to the Martin Logan Motion 4's which have excellent detail, voice quality and a very small foot print. Bass lacks a little bit but it is there. The Def Tech Promonitor 1000's are a little larger have excellent bass for a small speaker and a warmer sound but detail and clarity is not quite as good as the ML's but it is still excellent. I was wondering if any one has either of these speakers and can give some input. I will not be using them with a sub or part of a HT system, they will be hooked up to a cheap pioneer VSX515 AVR. I will be using them instead of one of the crappy sound bars that are out there.

I like the sonos but it is out of my budget which was about $350 but I am willing to go up to $500.

This Philips sound bar got some good reviews but I can't find it any where to listen to it.

would prefer not to have a sub as I already have a sub for my HT and 2ch system in the same room.

I like the Motion series and based on your description it would seem it's the best choice since dialogue is your primary concern.

I just got back from BB and listened to the Motion 4's, the sonos and DT 800's instead of the 1000's. The Motion 4's were the best sounding and they even kicked Arse with music although thin on the low end but tolerable. The DT 1000's are the best for bass. I think I am going to purchase the Motion 4's on monday!

Has anybody checked out ZVOX products? They are compact, single box units that can sit under the TV; that's what I'd be looking for when/if I upgrade our family room TV.

I'd probably be settling for their base model, the 220: see HERE.

Yes, I listened to one of the larger 550 units and was just about set to order the 420 for my bedroom, but then we started looking into downsizing in the next 3-5 years and decided not to add to the collection. At this point, if I do downsize, I have plenty of systems that I can re purpose one complete setup for the bedroom.

I like the zvox units because they just sit under the tv base and sound pretty good and are in the right price range.

I have never heard the bookshelf ML Motion series. I did hear the Motion 40 on one of my occasional trip to the BB Magnolia store and I did like what I heard especially given the price class they are in. They do seem shy on bass for their size but are very detailed and have a good high end from what I heard. That would also be the way I would go.

I took home a $400 Samsung sound bar the HW-F550 because of its small foot print, decent reviews and the fact that it connects wireless to my SS TV and its volume can be controlled without having to switch remotes or modes. While if functions very well, the sound leaves much to be desired for just basic TV sound, especially at low volume.

I have decided to go with the Definitive Tech. Promonitor 1000 and I will be returning the SS sound bar. I chose the DT's over the Martin Logan Motion 4's because they are a more rounded speaker and they don't need a sub if I want to watch movies and not use my HT set up.

I was considering trying this Onkyo Onkyo LS3100 Envision Cinema 2.1 powered TV speaker system with Bluetooth® streaming and wireless subwoofer at Crutchfield.com
System but as usual, Best Buy did not have it working and I could not listen to it.

Hey I recently bought a pair of def tech promonitor 1000s and I had ran off my pioneer receiver for my rear surrounds. Needless to say I was playing some celo music to test them out and one completely blew. I took it back to best buy and got some beefy bipolars. They would sound distorted also which I didn't like. I had the crossover set at 80hz to go to my sub so they didn't preform well at all. I'd go for the Martin Logan's! I know it's not my setup either because ever since then all my speakers are crystal clear and going strong.

The promonitor 1000's that I heard were crystal clear. The ML's had a bit more clarity but were thin on bass. I will be using the 1000's for TV audio only, no music or HT and without a sub. If I don't like them I just may return them and get a pair of PSB B4's or B5's.

Yeah if you just want tv audio then you'll be happy with them, I was prob pushing them to soon plus I didn't give them much of a break in period. I do remember though when I didn't crank up the volume they did sound good

I just received the Def Tech Promonitors today and hooked them up to the TV through a n old Pioneer VSX515 AVR. They sound pretty good so far. They need about 30hrs of break in according to the manual. I have been using my Monitor Audio S1's for the TV. The DT's don't sound as full and they have less bass but with break in the manual says the midrange and bass will blossom. I am impressed with the sound stage and stereo separation of the DT's. It is noticeably wider than the MA's. Dialog is crisp and clear. Once they are broken in, I will hook them up to my reference system just to see what they can do. I may also buy a cheap DAC for them and bypass the pioneers.
