    Speaker stand height

Does anyone know what size speaker stand is appropriate for 12" monitors?
Is 24" to low? I saw similar speakers on 30" and that seemed very high

You need to go by ear level of your listening position. Ideally, the tweeter should be at or slightly above ear level. So, only that consideration will determine whether 24" is too low or if 30" is too high.

paul_pci is rigth. Depending on the dispersion characteristics of your tweeter and how far you are from the speakers you can get away with the tweeter a few inches above or below ear-level while sitting. I built my stands 29" to accomodate 13" tall speakers, the combined height is 42", just like you saw. I might lower them an inch or two as they're really about 3 or 4 inches higher than ear level as is but when I raise my seat I notice absolutely no sonic difference.
