    Screen size?

I know there's a ratio out there for determing proper screen size/distance, but I can't seem to find it. Can any of you help me? It's for an article I am putting together.

    thanks
    eric

I use this formula for calculating HDTV distance:

    screen size x 2.5 / 12 = viewing distance
    viewing distance x 12 / 2.5 = screen size

    For instance to calculate appropriate viewing distance: 42" x 2.5 / 12 = 8.75 feet
Or to calculate appropriate screen size: 7 feet x 12 / 2.5 = 33.6" (in which case you may want to choose a 32" or 37" set)

I have seen a few. The one that has stuck with me for projectors is: Distance from screen should be 1.5 times the width (not diaginal) of the screen.

With HDTVs-not withstanding the closeness of TV-one can determine best siting distance from TV to see the highest resolution the eye capable of (siting closer make picture too soft, and siting further make the picture loss details). It looks like not only size of TV determine the siting distance, but also type of source (480, 720P, 1080i, etc...) is taken into factor.

    Here is the chart...............
