    Requesting help with wiring

    Hello,
    I apologize in advance for my ignorance, and I did search the site for answers, but here goes:
    -just got new 50" Philips HD plasma and DVD player to integrate into 5.1 surround system;
    -Philips TV has 2 HDMI outputs + other regular connectors
    -Philips DVD player has HDMI output+other regular outputs
    -Yamaha RXV 730 A/V receiver has host of connectors, but NOT HDMI
    -satellite has DVI out, + regular connectors

    If I run HDMI from DVD into TV directly, can I still run audio separately via coaxial or digital optical into receiver (it's my understanding that HDMI cable carries video & audio).
    -for satellite, run DVI directly into TV and audio separately into receiver?

    Thank you

    R.

    Any other suggestions for hookup?

    I would do it just like that. I prefer running video sources directly to my TV and audio into the receiver via optical or coax cable. You may want to run a connection from satelite analog audio to TV for viewing without the receiver being on. HDMI will have an audio signal so you could watch DVD without receiver, this may mean you might have to mute the TV while using receiver for surround sound.
