Ahhhhh....Finally BARAKA (1992) shot in 70mm looked the way it should. It was on INHD the other night and wow did it ever blow away the DVD, which was released twice by MPI over the past few years, but both of those editions can't hold a candle to how it looked when broadcast in HD. The colors were rich, the detail incredible, and even the 5.1 soundtrack seemed a bit more engaging than the Dolby 5.1 on the DVDs.

Did anyone else happen to catch it?

WOLF in HD also looked great, but sounded terrible. KILL BILL Vol. 1 & 2 looked OK, but the biggest problem was the fact that they took the 2.35 X 1 scope frame and cropped it down to full-frame 1.33 X 1 and then ....and then....AHhhhh. Stretched it out for 1.85 X 1 (16:9) playback....what an attrocity! ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO's NEST was also presented in HD and was far sharper and richer than the poor hazy Sp. Ed. by Warner on DVD. With awesome programming like this....DVD is sure to die soon...it's amazing just how poor some of the best DVD's not so long ago are by the newer standards of High Def. It's a shame when the High Def. broadcast of a little league game blows away all of the Superbit Editions of any DVD that we are in for a real treat when they get the new HD formats right.
