    probs with marantz sr5400ose receivers
i've been having a porblem with my receiver for some time.

during a movie, about halfway, the receiver shuts down and restarts automatically

overheating problem, or ohm problem? my fronts are 4ohm speakers! could this be causing that?

    thx

Yes it could. None of the Denon or Marantz receivers are 4ohm capable. They are both rated for 8 and 6 ohms. The units don't have a fan - and since they're not class A don't like to get hot. Nevertheless 4ohms itself probably won't cause the problem...but 4ohm speakers usually have minimum impedences lower than 2-3ohms And that may be what causes the problem.

Does it shut down in a loud passages?

Get it serviced regardless because it may have nothing to do with the impedence - and if you're not hearing distortion in the tweeter or grossly flabby bass then it's probably powering the speakers well enough.

    It would seem..
Seems to be an accurate diagnose of what I already expected.

I don't know your setup but if you use a subwoofer set your front as Large to cut lower frequency to be handled by the sub. This way can reduce a great deal of load from the receiver.
