im looking for a new 27 - 32 inch tv.

i am mostly looking at 27's to keep the price down, but if there is a good 32 i would get that.

i was noticing that a few brands have 27 inch hdtv models out now. like zenith. are these any good?

Well, Toshiba 32A43 ($450) did excellent in term of picture quality in the recent CR's Tvs shoot-out. With one year warranty :)

This time of the year might be best time to buy TV since most TV manufactures release new models around April-May which mean the current models will be discounted :)

The Sony Wega KV32FS100 32" and the JVC I'Art AV-32FA44 32" both have the best features and quality. I bought the JVC and am extremely impressed.

yea i have actually been looking at the jvc the most.

but i was wondering if it would be worth it to buy a hdtv model? would it be worth it with such a small set? i could see getting it if it was a 60 " model or something but 27" might not show any difference. and the jvc looked almost perfect to me. i can get a jvc for about $478 on sale and 528 reg. "canadian" and the zenith 27 hdtv was like 600 or so american.

are they serious about this 2006 hdtv deadline? that would piss me off. i just got a 61" sony last year that has dam good picture, and if i cant use it...........

Be careful about translating the prices to CAD. The Toshiba 32A43 may retail for $450 USD, but you can't find it less than $1000.00 CAD in Canada.

when all channels convert to HD, everyone can still use their analog sets, it's just an option you can have. They wouldn't be selling or making new analog sets if you can't use em in a couple of years.

Just to put your mind at ease - there is NO longer a deadline at this point in time. It was originall set for January 1st, 2007 (the end of 2006), but that idea had to be scrapped as being unrealistic. Now, the cutoff for all analog TV transmissions will only be set when 85% of the public is equipped to receive digital TV signals. That might take a while, but as ThisGuy pointed out in his reply here, when the analog transmissions DO stop, you'll still be able to view the digital signals on your analog TV set by the use of a set-top box.

As to your other questions ... NO, a 27" HDTV set would be a waste of money unless you sit really close to the screen (within a 4 to 6ft. range). A 32" set would be a much more satisfying choice for most situations. Now to which set to buy - scratch Sony off of your list as the first step. Their reliability and serviceability are not very good, and to add insult to the equation, they only come with a 90 day warranty!

Between a Toshiba and a JVC, I'd recommend the Toshiba ... hands down.

    Hope this helps you

zenith and samsung have HD monitors in 27" but 4:3 aspect ratio; Samsung has a 26" widescreen HD monitor but it may be too small for some people. There are several 32" HD monitors available but once again 4:3 aspect ration. You might want to look at 30" to 34" widescreen HD monitors.
This year all new display devices 32" and up will have ATSC tuners, some with POD capabilities; while you can still utilize a analog tv with a outboard ATSC ( HD ) tuner you will only see the resolution capable of the analog tv
