Looking for speakers on a budget
Hello everyone,
I am in the process of buying a new home that needs several repairs, so my budget is limited. I would like to spend no more than $400 on speakers. I currently have Yamaha speakers (purchased at Best Buy) and a Yamaha powered sub (YST-SW150) with two 8" woofers. They are powered by a Sony 885 receiver that I purchased about 3 years ago. The room is large and open and I will need to mount the rear speakers on the wall or ceiling. I am willing to keep my sub for now, but the other speakers must go, they sound like crap. Any Suggestions?
Thanks,
John
$400? Are you willing to "stage" it a bit or is
that the end-all total?
For what you want to spend, I would get a pair of Athena B1s with the matching Center (C-1?). That is a pretty good sub, so I wouldn't be in a hurry to change it. Get another pair of B1s for rears when you get the money, or spend another $400 on F1s and move the B1s to the rear.
I'm kinda hot on these speakers for budget systems. Sound nicer than they should. Next investment should be a better receiver. No offense, but with better speakers, the improvement will be worth it. Tax refund coming?
