    HT Receiver

I have an older Sony HT receiver. For surround audio it only has component analog 5.1 imputs, no co-ax or optical. My DvD has outs for all three so I've just been using the 5.1 analogs.

I'm in the process of purchasing a new speaker set-up by Definitive Technology which includes BP6s up front, a C2 procenter and Promonitor 100s in the back. I'm debating if I should upgrade the amp to something with a digital or co-ax out. Has anyone receintly gone from the 5.1 to optical or co-ax? If so was there much of a difference?

If you're of the mind set that this amp is really sub-par I would welcome your suggestion for a brand and model under $500.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Unless you have a bad case of upgrade-itis, my suggestion would be to try your old receiver/DVD arrangement with your new speakers. I think it will work fine for now. You can always upgrade later if need be.
