Hey Gurus!!!! What's HDMI 1.3 supposed to git me?

Alright, my Onkyo receivers are almost 7 years old. I'm running DD and DTS in 5.1 upstairs and downstairs. I've seen nothing in the last 7 years to make me upgrade. Now folks are sweating me for information on HDMI. I know the current iteration is a mess, what are the benefits of this tech and when witll they straighten it out?

The first HDMI 1.3 devices should start arriving around Xmas (such as the PS3 and the Toshiba HD DVD for Europe), but I don't expect HDMI 1.3 receivers to be available until Spring. HDMI is a continually evolving standard, so one could expect a new iteration of HDMI some 12-18 months later.
