Then I went in with the manual set up and it still picked 1080i.then i whent to play a demo nfs street pro and my tv flicked to 720p why is it doing that i brought ps3 so i can use 1080p not 1080i or 720p and my hdmi cord is 1.3 aswell can someone help me

what model/brand tv do you have? Could be that your display has a native rez of 1080i. I haven't got my PS3 yet (X-mas gift) but maybe the game, NFS street pro is only 720p.

I don't think any PS3 games are 1080p, you'll need to pick up some Blur-Ray discs to get 1080p.

I believe it depends on the game. It should send whatever resolution it was recorded/created in, unless you force it to scale. You'd have to go into the settings and remove all the other outputs and leave just the 1080p.
I'm sure that your monitor can scale as well. Which does a better job (the PS3 or monitor) will take a little trial and error on your part.
Good luck, and let us know how you make out.

Mine is in 1080p as well. What is your tv? Are you sure it supports 1080p and not a max res of 1080i? If it does provide a 1080p signal the PS3 should automatically detect it.

i can pretty safely say your TV does not support 1080p, but rather 720p/1080i
