Angry Dishnetwork pulled the plug on MTV,BET,Comedy Central, Nickelodeon&VH1.

This really sucks since I am a subscriber to Dishnetwork. It seems that Viacom that own above stations have proposed excessive rate increases which Dishnetwork refuse to implement and pass on to their customers. Viacom is demanding rate increases nearly 4 times the rate of inflation. So as of now, all the above channels are blocked

That sucks ass. I'm happy with my buroughs fiber optic television and internet. I don't get great picture quality and only analog stereo sound, but get all the chanels, including movie channels on all tvs and it's still much less than Dish or anything else. I wouldn't be able to live without my comedy central!

Know what sucks? I have Time Warner Cable and I have been getting these irritating banners running accross the bottom of the screen on these channels asking me to call Dish Network and demand they put the channels back on. Really, really irritating.

    Dish Network,

I have cable! Why do I care?

P.S. You guys that have Dish Network, sorry. That really does suck they pulled them.

You must also believe that they(Dish net) are telling it like it is. Ya know what? This is the moment you've been waiting for and only comes around "in a blue moon"... the moment which you the consumer get to voice their opinion and in sufficient numbers where it would count the most! Rellish this baby, for you prolly won't see this oppurtunity come around for some time.

You must also believe that it is an across the board increase(maybe not to the same extent with other content media providers ie. Direct Tv, Cox cable, ect.) and if the program provider doesn't sacrifice the programming in an effort to contain Sat. prices, then they will pass the added cost to you.

Myself, I have Direct Tv and have not been notified about any contract dispute with Viacom. It will be interesting to see if an increase in overall cost is presented instead. My local cable provider(Cox) did have a tiff with ESPN not to long ago... but in this one, they both(Cox and ESPN) ran adds on TV and radio making their case. Will Viacom do the same?

Glad to know Smokey is not just looking out for forest fires!

FYI - the "irritating banners" that showed up on your cable system were not put there by anyone other than Viacom. They were merely trying to get vast numbers of people to call Dish Network and complain - thereby pressuring Dish to cave in to the excessive rate increases demanded by Viacom. Also, Dish didn't "pull" the Viacom channels for spite or anything of the sort ... they were forced by law to do so since their contract with Viacom had expired, and they would've been open to litigation if they had left those channels up and running.

You got the nail pegged to the floor. They're trying to force consumers to do their strongarmin' for them... Guess it didn't work...

You know whats funny? I don't have satellite T.V., yet. I get my "cable" from my home owners association and they get it from this company called Gatehouse Networks. The "cable" feed I receive is basically Dish Network broadcasts downgraded and assigned new channels and fed to the subdivision. So I too will lose CBS, BET, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Nick Games & Sports, Noggin, and VH1. Some reports say that during negotiations for the new contract Viacom was only asking for an additional 6 cents per subscriber from Dish Network because Dish Network recently hiked up their rates by $3.

    Another shot across the bow!

Guess it's Dish Network's turn now. Giving all the phone numbers was a nice touch too.

Look, Spongebob is off air and I'm pissed. That's right, I admit it. I like Bikini Bottom as much as my kids. I say post the Viacom counterproposal and let the paying public decide who's screwing who.

In the mean time, can everyone please call the linked numbers so I can get my Spongebob back? Pleeease!!!

Thanks everybody for the info. As Wasch_24 mentioned, Dish jacked up their fee to their consumer just couple of months ago, and that might be why they hesitate to increase their rate so soon.

Of all the channel they pulled, the one I miss most is VH1-Classic that play video music commercial free, and BET for their nightly stand up comedy show
