    Digital Cable Box
I have a digital cable box which has coax and optical out. However the manual says "use either or" in reference to the digital outputs. Could I have coax digital going to one device and optical digital goint to another?

I'd go into the cable box's setup menu and see what your choices are. Worst scenario would be that you have to (from within the setup menu) toggle back and forth between the two.

OTOH, what two devices are you talking about?

You can use both, but I DONT SEE WHY.
If you want to use this in multiple rooms, you will only be able to watch one channel at a time:1:

The diagram and intructions seem to indicate that only one will be output (either optical OR coax). I'm trying to get digital sound to my DVD Recorder and AV/ Receiver but there's only ONE output on the cable box.

I'm confused Ace. How many physical output jacks do you have on your cable box? What is the manufacturer and/or model number of the box?

There are two outputs on the box, the optical is indicated as "optional", so it may not even be enabled, but the manual indicates an "either or" scenario like you say here, so no, you can't have both digital outs turned on at the same time.
