    Nakamichi AV-10

I am a newbie in this but I am a student in E&E and I understand the terms used. I have a problem. My father bought a Nakamichi AV-10 amplifier with speakers. (audio specialist) i don't know whether this is good or not but i have look at a lot of reviews on the amplifier and i am happy with it's clarity and sound. But i have a problem. I don't know whether the amplifier is paired with good speakers or not and i need know that transmission cables do play a part in getting good sound. I need some understanding on good cables, speakers, and how to get the most out of the amplifier. I am thinking of getting a new sub woofer for it also. can anyone tell me what to buy? I am in Malaysia. Thanks for helping.

The AV-10 is great for an older unit. It was built for sound quality and it really delivers. I had one for a few years but just simply outgrew it. I just needed more A/V inputs and needed updated connections (component video, multi channel for SACD/DVD-A, plus just needed more source connections). I would still have it if I didn't need all those extras!

You didn't say what speakers you had, but the Nak will make use of a good speaker. I had mine connected to Paradigm Studio 20's at the time and it was phenomenal.

Don't spend so much money on cable. Basic awg 14 cable will do fine for speaker cable. To get the most from your system you may look into speaker placement and room accoustic first. Many people don't realise that both contribute big factor in sound quality. You may try to adjust the distance between speakers, move away from the wall, toe in etc. If your room is too 'live' or you hear a lot of echo try to solve that by putting drapes, book case, carpet etc on the blank hard surfaces. And if you really want to upgrade the equipment, start with the speaker or probably adding a subwoofer. Your amp is fine.

the speakers is audio specialist. the brand on the speaker, and basically i need to know how u guys pair it up? i mean by looking at the characteristic of the amp, how u pair it up with speakers. say, cables impedences, resistances and then the speakers matching with 4ohm or 8 ohm. and seeing from the frequency everything.. is there any sites that i can read up on these? please recommend.
