denon 3805 and dvd 2200 setup question

I'm having an issue with the setup of these two components. I have speakers wired for 7.1 and it works great with my CD player, VCR, and television. When I use the DVD player, the player is controlling all surround functions, which is only 5.1. It's bypassing the amps surround settings. I have it hooked up with the 6 analog cables (for sacd) and the digital coax cable. I think all signals are going through the analog cables, because the way I understand it, this will bypass the amp's decoder. I'm convinced there has to be a setting I'm missing. I want the 3805 to handle the surround decoding, it just sounds better.

hit the "mode" button on your remote to change over to the automatic digital connection. also make sure you have the digital out turned on in the dvd player, and that the digital coaxial input is assigned to the dvd. if you have any further trouble, make sure you get your salesperson involved in hookup
