Componenent out and HDMI out of Time Warner 8300

I have a Time Warner 8300 box that has componenent out and HDMI out. I currently have the component out going to my AVR. My new television has an HDMI connection, so can I connect the HDMI from the cable box to the tv to allow for watching cable without the use of the AVR? I guess my primary question is, is it acceptable to have both the component out and HDMI out connected to the cable box or will the cable box get confused??

I know nothing about your cable box, but you should be able to use both types of output at the same time. You'll still need a toslink or coaxial digital connection from the STB to your AVR for audio, since HDMI to a TV set won't get you far.

    Thanks...

currently I have a component and optical from cable box to AVR. This is for when I am using the AVR. I will use the HDMI from the cable box to the tv only when I want to watch TV without the AVR turned on...

HDMI is not active on all Time Warner 8300's. Just gotta check it out.
