Can someone help a gal in distress......

    Hey Everyone..........

I finally saved enough money ($3000) to purchase my first ever Amp and Preamp for a 5.1 Home Theater. The only problem is, I don't know which Amp/Preamp to buy. My living / dining room measure 25 X 15 feet. I will be using my HT for mostly DVD video viewing. But then again, I don't want to sacrifice on audio listening neither. If anyone can suggest a system for me, it will be greatly appreciated. One thing I should mention is that I live in an apartment.

    Thanking you in advance.
    Jenny Lopez

P.S. I'm looking at speakers made by Paradigm and Energy.

If you're dead set on seperates, I'd start with this preamp:

If you're not opposed to a used amp, you can get a sweet amp from Rotel, Adcom, Acurus and others for around $500, leaving around $1000 for speakers. That's going to be tough, seeing as how a subwoofer would take at least around $500 of that. I would either:

    A) Buy speakers a piece at a time as more money comes available and go with the seperates.

    or

    B) Go with a $1000-ish reciever and get all your speakers now.
