Bose For Christmas: I am afraid

My best friend just dropped a hint that he may have got me that Bose HT set-up for Christmas. He was telling me how great the Bose Radio and Bose HT sounded at the store. And the HT with wireless ( he hates wires showing anywhere) is just incredible despite its small size. Is he mistaken and should I be afraid? Thanks for any input on the Bose stuff, Jack

Just make sure you get the sales receipt. Among other things, you may not be able to get it factory serviced if something goes wrong.

If nothing else just use it in a secondary room, bedroom, or bathroom.

I'd love to get Bose for Christmas! Hey, it beats getting underwear, right?

If nothing else, at least you know the thing is expensive. Get a gift receipt, return it, and use the proceeds towards something you really want. The price of a Bose HTiB can buy a lot of toys!

If he got you a Bose system for Christmas give it a try. Who knows you may like it and find it fits in your environment. If not politely ask if he would mind if you returned it for something you would enjoy more. Make a party out of it by taking him with you so he is still part of the experience then lunch and a few beers rounds out a great day with a friend.

Be happy and grateful that you have such a friend that would buy you such a gift.

*If its better than what you have now: keep it!

I wouldn't mind having the Bose lifestyle electronics for casual listening. It doesn't sound too bad when you replace the speakers.

Well, no, Bose just aren't that bad. It's their price/performance ratio which is bad -- you can usually do much better for the same amount of dosh outlay.

what is bose "best" system (the one in their show room), and how much does it cost? ~$5000?

my old system sounded better imo, and all my friends opinion...

The Lifestyle® 48 system (DVD/AVR combo, 7 speakers, bass module) is $3999. This is the model typically in the Bose store display, but some rumors persist that they use aftermarket amplification behind the curtain. :skep:

But theoretically, the "best" system would involve 6 901 series loudspeakers ($4194) used in a 6.1 system. But you'd have to supply your own amps and subwoofer.

Your Denon and Chorus would blow away any Bose cube system. And in my opinion would sound better than the 6 901's.

Well SQ aside the biggest problem I have with the Bose HTIB sets is there cost. They are more expensive than than what you could pay for a set-up using say their own 201's and 301's which have better SQ than the cubes. However since you are getting them for free you don't have worry about overpaying. As has been said elsewhere they should not be your main system but their size may let you put some music in a room you never considered setting up before......

if we're refering to Bose Lifestlye 38 or 48, then keep it. I do agree with the poor sound quality, but the multi-zone capabilities alone justifys its' cost. If you were to built a dual source, 14 zone, RF controlled, hard drive, home theater system with wireless surround ( or wireless zones), you would exceed the cost of the Bose or have a difficult system to operate but cheaper. I challenge anyone on this board to come up with a cheaper, easier to use system consisting of the same features and set up for 4 zones with MSRP!

OK I have bose and I know it is bad, but can anyone suggest me a small speaker system which will sound better than bose as my room is small and difficult so I can only use small speaker, looking is also matter for me.

my parents have this kit, and imo, it sounds better than any of the bose cubes... and my dad and brother (who still lives there) like the sub which can bump pretty good...
(I usually turn it down when I visit, and the sub blends nicely)

Paradigm Atom's are also very good, if you want a small bookshielf type speaker...
