I like my LG BD370 and would recommend it in its price range but you're getting very near PS3 budget.

If you're willing to spend a pittance more than $275, the new Oppo BDP 80 is yours. If you're well researched, it will sell itself.

I read Wal-Mart has a Pioneer on the website for $108.00. If it is as good as their prior models this is a deal.

The Panasonic, Sony & Samsung all offer a quality unit around $199.00 give or take.

Much of it depends on what features you want.
    * streaming of Netflix, Amazon etc.
    * Need multichannel outputs (this leaves out the $299.00 Oppo)
    * Internet connectivity, which leads to Wyfi or not? BD Live?
    * Do I want it to play SACD?
    * Kick out another $100.00 or so and get the PS3, have an excellent Blu-ray player with the addition of top gaming.
    * Is DVD upsampling important? (this I understand is also lacking in the Oppo)

I haven't looked at the Pioneer's feature list yet but if that met your needs I'd jump on that and spend the rest on a couple new BD flicks.

Wow that Pioneer model price dropped fast. I brought it for 160.00 last September, and its working great. For that new price it would be hard to pass up.

The Oppo BDP-80 has no competition in that price range.
