    Blu-Ray and black bars question???

    Hi All,

I bought a PS3 when is was released and just now bought a couple of Blu-Ray movies for it and on my 42" 16:9 plasma are the "dreaded black bars" above and underneath the picture to make it widescreen. Now even on the new Regular DVD's we dont have the black bars and on the 4 hd-dvd's I have the movies fill up the whole screen. Do I maybe have something set up wrong or are some of the movies just filmed where we still have the black bars??? Thanks for the info upfront.

Is the aspect ratio right, or is everyone short and squat?

If you have a 16:9 screen, and the movie has a higher aspect ratio (1.85:1 or 2.39:1), then yes, you will get black bars top and bottom. But if the movie is 16:9 or less, then yes, you have a configuration error.
