You can get the receiver I have JVC-RX DV31SL which use to retail for $450 for about $175 sealed (unopened) on Ebay- you might need to wait a week or 2 but it regularly appears, possibly as a "buy it now". You can also get this for $240 plus shipping via an Amazon.com merchant or other online places check epinions.com To me it gives great sound (you do need decent speakers & a good sub to achieve that though) both for rock/blues CD's and dvd's and has a built in progressive scan dvd player which I like & alot of people on this board are against. It gives 5.1 dolby pro logic2 surround sound as well as DTS. The 5 satellite speakers and sub I have, you can get for about $9oo from orbaudio.com Good luck

Yamaha 5760/650- great entry level receiver that has YPAO feature! Got mine for $325 as a floor model. Heard you should be able to get it around $375-$425.

check out Yamaha, Marantz, Denon and Harman Kardon. Hershon is right, I do not reccomend his receiver and you can understand why if you do a search on it.

    Yamaha RXV 1400...

Pre-outs, YPAO and everything you are likely to need in a quality package for 450-500 if you look a bit....especially with new models coming out.....

    Forget Japan stuff.

I had a Denon AVC, Onkyo 939 etc...and the best receiver is the Cambridge Audio Azur 540R. (2k and below) Period.

IF you can live without DTS, ProLogic II, and all the formats that have come out in the last 5 years, I would suggest that you search E-Bay for a Marantz SR-780. It's an absolute powerhouse on music and does a first-rate job decoding Dolby Digital 5.1 movies. It blows away my NAD T762 (1200.00) receiver on music playback, and can usually be found on E-Bay for under 300.00. The unit normally comes with the RC2000mkII programmable remote, the so-called "Remote of the Gods", which used to sell for 200.00 by itself. If music is a priority, and bells and whistles are low on your list of priorities, you might want to give this a shot!

I went with the Yamaha HTR5760 also. If you don't need a whole lot of features but want crisp sound and power this is the way to go.
