Any RF remote extenders that work?

Hi,
Looking for a reliable IR to RF to IR setup to run my stereo setup from my basement, or various rooms in my home. I tried the Radio Shack pyramids a couple years back with no real success. Have there been any technological advances (like Bluetooth) that work better than the RatShack device? I'm trying to spend no more than $150, so the new Universal remotes with RF are out of my budget. Planning to use my existing Yamaha remote.
