    Wireless Multi Room setup questions

    Hello,
There appears to be more and more options for this.
    I have:
I stream music from my harddrive and Pandora via my computer. I have a wireless network set up in my home.
    I want:
Ceiling speakers in my kitchen and living room, two zones.

    Is it best:
Buy an Applie Airport (or similar) to run from my computer to a receiver in a closet and run two zone wires through the attic (mice concerns) from the receiver?
or find some powered (active) speakers, install them in the ceiling and have them zoned wirelessly? I'm having a heckuva time finding decent powered speakers with a 1/8" plug.

From what you desire and what you are considering sounds like more work/Cost and concern in the long run. Why not look into a wireless system like sonos or squeezebox set up. The will allow you to play what ever you like in either location and have full control of volume and, selection in each room with a remote. the only extra cost after the wireless system is a boombox/mini system to play through in the kitchen (thinking that the main system is in the livingroom). Squeezebox has an boombox wireless system for such applications that do not have full systems to connect to. I am thinking of picking one up for the garage and use on the rear patio during cook outs.

I don't have room in my kitchen for a boombox unit and would prefer a ceiling mounted speaker. I like the idea of the mobility of a boombox unit, such as taking it outside, but my lack of room in the kitchen overweights it.

Head over to this link and it can give you an Ideal of what they have to offer:

Not knowing the layout of your home it is hard to picture the work that would be needed to setup what you want. this or some other wireless system gives you more flexability in the long run.

Right now i'm leaning towards putting the receiver in a closet somewhere in the house and running wires to ceiling mounted speakers in 1) the kitchen and 2) the living room. I have the receiver already and I can get 4 speakers for no more than $200. To connect my pc to my receiver i'm looking at the Orb: http://new.orb.com/en/music/features.html .

My other option would be to find some powered speakers I could mount in the ceiling but other than some bluetooth connected speakers (http://www.manhattan-products.com/en...speaker-system ) I havn't found much else that fits my criteria.
