    Simple Stand Question

I'm going to buy a pair of speaker stands for my atoms for my apartment bedroom. I was wondering what the correct size of the top shelf should be.

I was looking at this, which is 6 x 6

and also at this, which is 5 x 5

Just wondering what the norm is, thanks.

Tweeter should be at ear level of listening position. Will you be sitting up or lying down while in the bedroom?

heightwise, its perfect. most of the time i'll be listening while sitting down directly across the room. less often i'll be in my bed, but its still a very nice level.

I just wanted to check on the top shelf dimensions, cause the atom's are i think 6.5 x 8 and most stands come 5x5 or 6x6. i don't want them fallin off or anything, obviously.

It's not usually a problem. Either one of those stands are fine. Usually the crossover is on the back, so that the speaker has a pretty central center of gravity.

I like to put the front of the speaker either flush with the front of, or farther out than the front of, the stand, soas not to add additional edges that will cause diffraction and reflection problems.

My speakers are all on stands with a smaller top plate. Don't worry about it too much, just balance it and as Dusty said, I like to have the front overhang the front of the stand a bit.

use some of that tacky putty stuff so they don't slide, then you'll have no falls.

If you have any rugrats running around or your speakers are sitting in free space, you may want to seriously consider stands that can be mass loaded. Once so equipped, your speakers will be far more stable and will, arguably, sound better. Just an idea.
