Nope, ain't nobody here but us low-fi chickens.
After your showing here and all your professing to be the one true "audiophile", do you really think people here (or anywhere , for that matter) will openly admit to being a member of your club?
Maybe you would be happier wirth your own kind.
Trust me, you won't find them here.
take the hint...

Since none of us have a time machine or a wayback machine we will never have the components that will elevate us to audiophiles in your eyes. By the way most audiophiles are avoiding your posts.

Thanks Guys...Lets hear it for "all-fi"
Thanks for for the replys Guys...On the "Q" of us all, I don't think it really matters what a guy's "FI" quotent or equipment list is. If it's fun, relaxing and not too harmful then do it...lots (I also like my stogies, woodworking, almost all hi tech stuff [old enga-nerd] and ridin my old beemer)...The great thing about this forum is communicating with a group of like minded folks and learnin new new stuff....Thanks again...kunk
p.s. just for chuckles and to see what comes up (comments that is), here's my quipmnt lst too:
Most important…music
JAzzz
Classical
New age
Stuff:
Marantz sr-18 - av rcvr
Rega Planet - red book cd
Sony es9000 - dvd sacd
Dynaudio - 82 f&r, 42 r&c, cntr
Sunfire true - ht sub
GAS Son of Ampzilla - amp
Gas Theoby - pre
Yamaha ns1000m - monitors
Nakamichi 630 - tuner pre
Stax e-stat – phones
Building projects:
Amps – Both GC (Gainclone LM3886) and T-amps (Tripath) – Giant killer technology. Check out “47 Labs” GC and “Red Wine Audio” SLA powered T-amps
Speakers – QWTP (quarter wave tuned pipe) and Helical TP, with full range, single point drivers (like Fostex, Lowther etc…no xovers req)
I’ve got a new helical tuned pipe design that has over 3:1 tuned length per size over a standard “Buschhorn” (spelling is correct) QWTP and I think I’ve figured out how to build it…cool huh
Support equip:
Techtronix 200 mHZ d/t – scope
Wavetech full function signal generator
Usual Fluke DVM
Misc power supplys, SLA & LiPo battery supplys (Best DC there is!) and programmable chargers
Usual tools and Smt soldering equip
Also built a nice office, lab, computer room in which to relax...life are gud!
Other:
Full on woodworking shop with all commercial equipment
Great older BMW R1200c
Three "dors" full of tasty stogies (a few are actually legal...he-he)

nah, I'm 17 and I just own a $12k system for fun...
my system:
Thiel CS2.3's
Mcintosh MA6400
Luxman PD-282 with Denon DL103 and Pro-ject Phonobox II
Marantz CD5001OSE
Siltech MXT New York IC's (for cd player)
Kimber PBJ IC's (for phonostage)
Qed Qunex 3 IC's (for turntable)
Furutech powercord (for amp)
Kimber 4VS speakercable
and a double set of advents (The large Advent speaker) as a 'second system'...
of course there are audiophiles here (well, most of them avoid your posts somehow)
it's just that you think the gear you own is the only gear considered to be audiophile worthy.
Perhaps you also might wanna check out Mr. Peabody's setup, as well as Florian's, and E-Stats, and Bernd's, and JRhymeammo's and many others 'on this site'...
and just for the record, you don't nessecarily have to be an audiophile just to take interest in audio equipment...
Times have changed.
Learn to live with it.
Keep them spinning,
Bert.

Why not invest a few American dollars and upgrade. Are there any audiophiles around ??
It appears you wish to discuss audio but is reluctant to get seriously involved in audio by spending a little money !
I guess I'll wait for my tax rebate, and think about it. I'm glad you looked at my system, as I didn't post it because I was ashamed of it.
It's interesting you choose to debase people based on the cost of their equipment. I've never professed to be either an "audiophile" or attempt to suggest that I have the best gear on this site or any other. Furthermore, you are a total tool debating on the "General Audio" section anyways. Why don't you wander around to the speaker/receiver/or other more specific areas? You might find a more specific audience to spew your moronic broad, and generally incorrect statements.
Frankly Melvin, I don't need to justify my spending habits to you or anyone else. But since your asking, I'll clue you in. I have a mortgage, 3 kids, and some student loans (getting my MBA). Personally, I'd rather take the family on vacation every year or so, than sink the money into audio gear. After all, the kids are only young once. Like you were, way back in 1843. And for the tax rebate? I've already booked a family vacation for 2 weeks checking out this great country. Gonna hit Colorado, SD, WY, and some others. I'd invite you, but my car doesn't run on hot air.
And there are some really fine folks on this board that really enjoy discussing equipment, most of it well above my income level. And guess what? Your the only real asswhole in the whole bunch. I'd say pretty much everyone spends what they can afford more or less. Enjoying music/movies/any sound doesn't simply require a big wallet. Why don't you go and start an AV board, where the #1 requirment is income level. Make sure you don't set it too high though because there are plenty out there that would laugh at your setup as well.
Check out that little red chicklet by your name. That means that pretty much everyone hear thinks your a priick. Including me. And don't bother commenting on the "loose" language, its cathardic.

geez, that must have felt good :)

No, actually it felt good to really see what an pompus ass Mr. Walker really is. Not only is he living in the past, he has the antiquated notion that only expensive things are good.

WOW! It seems that I've missed the big meltdown. Who got Mel so wound up?

I think the nurses in the home moved his speakers in a bit. They now stand 11'4" apart. The change in sound is nearly killing him. Hopefully it will, the sooner the better.

I think they stopped his prozak drip.

Either that, or he finally realized that just because weall know he can dish it out but can't take it, that doesn't mean we're not gonns throw it back at him.
Didja see his input in the "Hafler Help" thread? Priceless! Classic Melvin.

Just went through it. It's like a train wreck. It's disgusting to watch, but I can't pull my eyes away.

How far apart are your speakers? Pretty much after that he goes on total cost.
-
Oh he'll get to you I'm sure. Nurse Ratchet probably just administered his sleepy time meds.
-
Three posts less than 1 minute apart.
Remember that link someone posted that showed traffic statistics on discussion forums? I've got to believe that in January we were right up there with the likes of AVS and Audioholics. So that's one thing we've gotten out of this mess right?

We must have a different concept of the term. I considered myself to be an audiophile when I was 15 and had Advents. Use a double pair today in the vintage system.

What was the question?
Oh Yeah, Hobbies!
Photography and Tennis seem to take up a lot of my spare time. Oh and Travelling which ties in with photography but not tennis so much.
Just got back from about 2 1\2 hours of playing singles at the club. I think I am going into this months singles tourney ranked number 4 (?) among 4.5 to 5.0 players. My backhand has fallen apart lately so my quest for the trophy and bragging rights might end quickly this month.
Anyway,
JSE

Bicycling - Although I've been mountain biking since there were MT bikes ~1984, The last four years, I've been spending most of my time on a road bike. I really like long rides. I did seven century (100+ miles) rides last year.
