I am not surprise Mike. With the several anchores here who do care much about tube, tube forum won't suvival. I guess the cable forum will face the same fate.

Well, we decided not to open a Tubes forum on the new system since there had been no posts in the old Tubes forum for well over 30 days. There didn't seem to be enough interest.

    Agreed
It was a joke. Still with the resurgance in tube popularity you'd think with the large memership this forum boosts there would be greater interest.

    What ARE those amps?
    Awesome looking!

    MikE,

I use tubed amplification and I didn't find much of relevance in A/R's tube forum. Of course, I'm not nearly as into it as you appear to be - nothing but EL84's in my system and you've got 2A3's and a few other's - is that an 845? Nice looking stuff....

How about this, if we end up getting an influx of members discussing tube audio, we'll open a new forum dedicated to the subject - fair enough?

Tube amplifiers are amplifiers...discuss tubes in the amplifier section which is mostly dead as well. Maybe you will sway people who don't know what a tube amp is.

Tube guys can edumacate the masses...might save them from buying swill.

Thanks for the shout but neither of the amps pictured are mine. The first is a 845 amp from Sophia Electric and the second is completely custom 45 beauty by Josh Stippich. The only thing my amp shares with that amp is the EML 45 solid plate tube. Here's my Moth Audio custom s45 direct reactance drive - adjustable bias, zero feedback - 45 or 2a3 SET (1.8-6wpc output). 3k Electra-Print OPT / 13w plate disipation. Customization includes Borne 10k pot / Exotica teflon coupling caps / Kiwame carbon film resistors / CTC "blowtorch" silver wire / Gibson speed dial volume knob. Tube compliment: EML solid-plate 45 / Raytheon 5u4gb / Sylvania d-getter 6an4.

I keep hearing good things about that tube - what is your opinion? Is it a great tube, underrated due to its small size??

Maybe we're in our left mind.

The very best stereo systems I have heard used tubes. So whatever issues they have technically and blah blah blah, makes music perceptually, at least, better.

Though I would like to hear the Sugden Masterclass set-up one day.

I really have little experience overall with tubes. I'd never owned a tubed product prior to purchasing the Manley Stingray. I'd didn't want to get too far into the austere so my auditions (once I recognized that tubes were the way I wanted to go) were limited to items that were easily available. I found that I did not care for the SET amps in my system but by the same token, my system isn't optimized for power that low.

The Manley beat out several other tubed amps using EL-34's, 6550's and KT-88's. Whether thats a result of the tube or the amp itself, I can't say. Sorry to be of so little help.
