    hello all!
just found this on craigslist and was wondering what you guys thought of the 2505...http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/ele/268464976.html

is it something worth while getting even if you dont know anything about this stuff but want to listen to excellent sounding music?

There's a very large McIntosh contingent that will drool over anything McIntosh. It should be pretty good. I don't know about the price -- look around. I looked at eBay and saw three had sold -- one with a pre.

This is an older model, lower power Mac: 50 watts/ch; made 1967-77. Find more info here, under "Amplifier 2" ...

The price, ($695), is about right assuming it is functioning without quirks and is free of significant cosmetic flaws, (a small bit of "bubbling" under the glass front panel is normal in a unit of this age but the glass should not be cracked or chipped); without the wooden case, the unit would be worth about $100 less.

Most audio equipment lasts so long that used is just fine, I would worry a little if it's past 15 years due to electrolytic capacitors rarely working past 20 years. They can of course be replaced, usually at a reasonble cost. Be sure to visit http://www.audiogon.com/ before a purchase as this is probably the biggest and best used audio stuff outlet. Just search for Mcintosh, if that's the brand you'd like.

http://www.audiogon.com/ has a sister site http://www.videogon.com/ for, you guessed it, Video stuff and http://www.photogon.com/ for cameras.

Maybe they have more sites, that's all the ones I know, great outfit, well maintained, professional and a reasonable cost to place an ad.

Mac stuff has always been well built, but I'm not a fan of the sonics of those seventies units. Not hard sounding like some SS amps of that period, but opaque. I think you can do better for $700. Say a similar vintage Threshold Stasis. On the other hand, they do look cool with their trademark blue meters!

Is there a moneygon.com? For those of us who can't make up our minds, and just want to be told what to spend it on?
