    Sub/Amp Constant Hum
    Hi,

Wasn't sure if i should put this under the PC speakers section cause maybe its a general problem with non-pc speakers aswell, but my problem is this.

No matter whether the volume is set to 0 or i unplug all the jacks from my pc...my sub/amp hums constantly...

Its a 5.1 system but not the most expensive...

The humming is actually the sub vibrating constantly.

Is this due to some crappy components in the amp? and is there anything i can do to fix it

    Thanks

Is the subwoofer new? And does the plug have a 3 prongs?
Sounds to me like you've got a case of ground loop. If so, there's nothing wrong with the sub, it's your home wiring.
Try plugging it into a different outlet (on a different circuit). Or, spend $1 or so and buy one of those 3-prong-to-2-prong adaptor cheater plugs.

I hope this is the problem because it's the easiest to fix.

    Thanks kexodusc

The subwoofer is new (but its a subwoofer/amp in one box).

Unfortunately the plug has 2 prongs :s.

I will try to move it to another room in the house and see it that works, but the hum has existed since i bought it.

Will let you know what happens....

    Thanks again

it could be leaking DC, maybe a bad output transistor or filter cap.

Damn, moved it away from all other electronics and into a different plug, but still the same noise...

thanks for the help, but not sure what this means? do i need to replace something in the amp? or should i just toss this crap and buy somethnig else?

    Thanks again
