    sound help
    i was wondering what would be better to put behind my speakers to make them sound better carpet or foam ? im not sure exactly what the carpet does again but im pretty sure i know what the foam does, any help would be usefull thanx

    I would think carpet or foam would have the same result. Either would absorb sound to stop reflections. I find side wall or back wall damping more effective than doing anything behind a speaker. The sound from the speaker will hit the side and then back wall, meaning the wall in front of the speaker first.

    so if i put either carpet or foam behind the speaker on the wall it would help absorb the reflections and make it sound more clear ?

    Foam is very transparent to sound and won't absorb or deaden as well as a piece of thick carpet.

    You should try placing the material where you'd like it for a listen first before making it permanent. Not all rooms would require or benefit from the dampening.

    BR, when I think of foam I think of the thick stuff that is used for padding or camping matress. Maybe or maybe not as good as carpet for deadening sound but I'd think it would get the job done. I certainly wouldn't want any in front of my speaker.

    Foam, by my guess, would give a more predictable, wider spectrum result than carpet.

    Get some accoustic foam like THIS from Parts Express ...

    Don't glue it to the wall, but to a sheet of perf board so you can move it around. If you don't like the raw appearance, cover the whole unit with some speaker cloth like THIS from Parts Express ...

    yeah thats the kind of foam i was looking at but it depends on how much it costs cause the cheaper the better for right now, it looks to be pretty cheap but it would depend on shipping because i live in canada hah. but i will deffinetly check it out

    Just make sure you don't have any rear firing drivers in your speakers.
    Sometimes back reflections are taken into acct by speaker designers,
    and a lack of them might alter the sound for the worse:1:
